With the amount of launches the Samsung Galaxy S is beginning to see across the globe, it was only a matter of time before genius developers got their hands on the device to start tinkering with it. LeshaK from SamDroid.net is one such developer who – as of today – has come up with a method to root the Samsung Galaxy S.
Instructions on how you can get your device rooted can be found at the thread there. I wonder what kind of ROMs we’ll start to see spill out from here on out. I can only imagine the development community will thrive just as much as (if not more than) any other phone out there thanks to how many developers around the globe will soon be able to own it for themselves.

2.2 here we go!

Wow that was fast.
This is breaking news!
Excellent. I just hope it doesn’t get patched up before the Captivate is released.
Quality. This strenghthens the case for getting this quality handset.
“thanks to how many developers around the globe will soon be able to own it for themselves.”
that’s the key. We needed a good android phone available to the entire world and not just one carrier in one country in order for devs to optimize their apps for it.
“The SGS won’t be supported”… “The you can’t access the samsungs Kernal”… “I’m not buying the SGS cuz it will not get ROOT”… Anymore Samsung haters out there? This phone will explode with P-P-P-POWEEEER!
Rooting isn’t/wasn’t the issue. kernel support for roms is. Just don’t be surprised when you find out that your friends HTC phone is able to handle a variety of roms while your Galaxy S may barely be able to handle a select few.
Holy crap that was fast.
I’m excited to see where this is going. This was one thing that would have kept me from getting the SGS. We shall see what ROMs are built for it. :)
judging the response this news is getting in the android community, it makes me wonder why companies would make it hard for users to root?
Cool I hope its not to difficult, I want to have vanilla android on mine once I get one.
Check out this article http://www.careace.net/2010/06/07/samsung-releases-open-source-code-for-galaxy-s/
If the kernel source is released than it should be very easy to create ROMS (note: not sure if this is the full source code)
“Samsung has done what HTC has yet to do… released the kernel source of the Samsung Galaxy S to the general public.”

Samsung may have its problems but it is much much better than HTC
