The foundation in which AT&T helped to build its network in the early days of cell phones and smartphones will soon be retired. AT&T’s Chief Financial Officer, John Stevens, stated that the company plans to decommission its 2G network by the end of the year.
AT&T has already moved more than 6 million customers from the legacy network onto newer and better options. The move comes as no surprise as the company is aiming to clean up the covered spectrum, opening the door to meet increasing data needs.
2G speeds just don’t cut it in today’s day and age, and AT&T is hoping to re-purpose that network spectrum to increase data speeds for those in the 21st century. Hopefully, no-one reading this is still rocking that 2G network signal, but if you are, be sure to check out what AT&T has to offer in the range of smartphones.
