Android Facebook Messenger Material Design

As frequent and longtime Facebook Messenger users, we can’t say we ever had a problem with the app’s UI. We’ll admit, although pretty, it does feel a bit out of place with the new direction Google has been heading with Material Design. After beta testing a Material Design version of the app for some, Messenger is finally looking to push out the update — which brings the Android app up to speed with MD — to everyone.

Facebook Messenger Lead David Marcus announced on Twitter that the update should begin rolling out to Android users starting today, so be on the lookout for an update headed to the Play Store. The changelog on the Play Store doesn’t seem to reveal much, but expect to see the new FAB (floating action button) and other small UI changes.

Of course, you can always sign up for the beta if you want to live on the bleeding edge and try out new updates like this before the general public. Just don’t forget that bugs and other weirdness also comes with the turf. You can sign up and join the Facebook Messenger Beta here.
