UPDATE: Itchy Editor finger gets us Punk’d by Periscope

0

UPDATE: As it turns out, we were wrong. Periscope has had private broadcasts for some time now and we misread the context of CEO Kayvon Beykpour’s original tweet.

One thing is for sure: we’ll have all eyes on Twitter’s Q4 Earnings Conference Call on Wednesday as it will be streamed live via Periscope. Perhaps that’s when we’ll learn more about those “2 new features” (or maybe those were a joke as well… we’ll try to get our hands on a Beta and find out).

As the Editor who made this mistake, I’ve updated the article to reflect myself as the Author. Sorry, Scopers!

As big Periscope users here at Phandroid, we get excited whenever we hear about new features that could soon make their way to the service. Take Periscope co-founder and CEO Kayvon Beykpour who, when asked about 2 new features currently in testing by beta users, revealed private broadcasts are already in the works.

He didn’t dive into specifics, but if we had to guess, it sounds like users will soon be able to choose specific friends/followers or even entire lists to privately broadcast to, cutting out the rest of their follower count. This gives users a little more control over their privacy and that’s always good thing. We assume this is being tested on iOS first and will eventually make its way on over to Android, but no timeline given.

It will be interesting to see where Periscope branches out from here. It’s not too far fetched to imagine future updates where one would be able to “pass” the camera off to someone in a group, almost like a multi-camera approach (think events, live coverage of news, or just simple business meetings).
