HTC One M9s is yet another confusing addition to HTC’s flagship family

HTC always swears they’ll streamline their portfolio and make their product lineup less confusing, then they go and make 50 different revisions of the same phone throughout a year. The company has revealed yet another new HTC One M9 variant.

This is the HTC One M9s, and it’s positioned to be on the more affordable side compared to devices like the HTC One M9 (or M9+, or Me). The device is a bit comparable to the HTC One M9+ in its use of MediaTek’s Helio X10 octa-core chipset, 4MP UltraPixel front camera, metal build,  and 5-inch full HD display, but takes hits in the areas of camera (13 megapixels, but with sapphire glass and optical image stabilization), RAM (2GB) storage (16GB, which can be expanded using microSD).

It’s worth noting that HTC isn’t planning to make this device widely available. In fact, it’s exclusive to their home turf of Taiwan. So why are they launching it despite their promises to slim down their product line (something they’ve promised before but didn’t actually uphold)? Your guess is as good as ours.

It’s possible the phone was in production before the company shifted strategies and they’d be better off pushing it out of the door than to shelve it. But at the same time, it could just be HTC being HTC. The device is set to launch November 21st with a price tag equivalent to $390.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.
