With Halloween right around the corner, the folks at iFixit have donned their hockey masks and slashed up the Nexus 6P. If you have a Nexus 6P nearby, you might want to cover its front-facing camera. Circuit boards and chips are strewn around the room in a gory mess. This is not a sight for the weak of heart.
Horror cliches aside, iFixit has given us a peek inside the Nexus 6P. We can finally see what’s underneath the strange glass module on the back. One thing they found is that the aluminum build makes it more difficult to take apart than most phones. They had to resort to razor blades in order to pry apart some of the super-tight pieces.
There were no big surprises under the glass section on the back. Just the camera, flash, and other sensors. The biggest surprise is found in the fingerprint sensor. iFixit was expecting a similar fingerprint sensor as the one found in the Nexus 5X, since they both share the same shape. However, the Nexus 6P actually has a square fingerprint scanner underneath the round opening. Very interesting.
iFixit gave the Nexus 6P a 2 out of 10 rating for repairability. You’re probably not going to want to repair this device yourself. That’s the price to pay for solid construction. Check out iFixit for all the gory photos.
