How to create custom themes on the HTC One M9 [VIDEO]

9

In our hands-on with the HTC One M9 we talked about the new software features in Sense 7. They added a new widget that identifies where you are and shows the apps you will need, smart folders, and a cool new way to create custom themes. HTC has used themes in the past, but in Sense 7 they’re making it really easy for everyone to create super personalized themes.

The HTC One M9 comes with a bunch of pre-installed themes out of the box, but if you’re not a fan of those you can create your own. In fact, Sense 7 can create a personalized theme for you. All you have to do is take a photo. Sense will then identify colors from that photo and change accent colors, icons, and even system sounds. Here you can see a theme Chris made from a photo of flowers.

As we mentioned above, there are a number of pre-installed themes to choose from. You can see all of them right here. We love the level of customization HTC has added to Sense. Android is great for customizing, and this makes it really easy. Check out the video above to see how to create a custom theme from a photo. Would you use this feature?

  1. Hope this gets ported to the m8. Can’t really see me upgrading to get this.

    1. It should. It’s associated with Sense 7 not the M9, and they already stated that the M8 would be getting Sense 7 later this year.

Honestly, this is the only thing they announced that really got my interest up. I like creating themes, and with this, I might not even need a launcher this go around.

    2. I would assume any device with Sense 7 can do this

    3. I think I’m in your same boat… just get Sense 7 and you’ll be good to go. Wouldn’t upgrade to an M9 for it

  2. Not bad at all. :)

  3. Still can’t believe what a disappointment the M9 is. The only thing that looked promising was the camera and that turns out to be pretty average!

    1. Wait for the final software to pass judgement on the camera. As far as everything else. Its a fast and nice looking device. I was in your boat 2 days ago. Not wowed at all about the unveiling but after checking out more videos and checking out the themeing options available. Its a solid device. I want to hold out on a possible Phablet variant though.

      1. If they have given it to the world’s press running crappy camera software it shows you how far down the priority list the camera must be. Looks like Samsung win this round, but personally I’m going to hang on for the Z4 compact.

  4. Most anticipated HTC one M9 has been revealed with Snapdragon 810 64 bit processor. It also has 3 GB RAM and 32GB ROM size. It will run on HTC Sense UI 7 with Android Lollipop 5.0
