A successor to the Moto G might not be the most exciting Motorola product we’re on the lookout for this year, but it doesn’t keep us from getting a bit giddy about the latest rumor to have surfaced. Mellando No Android claims that the image you see above is a prototype for the next Moto G.
Not surprising is that the device is expected to be named the Moto G2, but will it be worthy of a nice, bug “successor” tag? Here are the specs that it’s said to pack once it finally sees the light of day:
- 720p display with 320 PPI (which would be roughly 4.6 inches)
- Quad-core processor with Adreno 305 GPU (Snapdragon 400?)
- 8MP camera (up from 5MP on the original Moto G)
That isn’t going to turn a ton of heads alone, but we have a feeling this will look impressive up alongside an inexpensive price tag (which is likely what Motorola is going for if the original is anything to go by). The rest of the device reveals a design language akin to what we got on the Moto E — it’s rather conservative and ordinary, but does include front-facing speaker grills. It’s not meant to be flashy, but it should look good enough that anyone who wants one won’t feel bad to carry one. Let’s hope an announcement isn’t far off.

I’d buy it. If I’m content with my Nexus 4, I probably would be with this also.
quad core S4 PRO snapdragon is whats in your nexus 4. i think its a better than the snapdragon 400. the moto x has dual core S4 Pro in a flagship phone, this is mid tier so im sure its not gonna out perform the X. you would be given up performance going from the nexus 4 to Moto G2.
I’m not a spec meister, but is the new Moto G pretty closely spec’d to the current Moto X? If so, that’s a great deal.
Not even close. In fact, the current generation Moto G already uses a quad core Snapdragon 400 which includes the Adreno 305 GPU. So it seems that a spec bump won’t be included.
Yea, quite disappointed with nearly every internal HW stays.
If they make a great budget phone better, sell it for a reasonable price, it will sell like hotcakes. One thing though, the cpu is showing age, even for a budget phone, prices on better cpu’s should be dropping by now. LTE, and a sdcard slot , are great additions though. It’s still hard to get the LTE version, too much backlog with the 3G variant, it’s everywhere, but not the LTE(around pittsburgh).
Make the camera better and keep most of the other stuff the same. Price and battery are more important than a state of the art processor.
That should remain a rumour.
The G2 doesn’t sounds like an upgrade, unless you price it cheap enough to make it look so. Snapdragon 400 needs a successor. Far too many companies have spammed the same chip again and again
