At Google IO 2014, a handful of IO attendees were seen wearing the above (hey, I know that guy) t-shirt. The t-shirt reads “it’s a toxic hellstew… and we like it!” and was designed by Tyson Kemp of ProcessNotProduct. If part of the shirt’s phrase sounds familiar, it’s because Apple’s CEO Tim Took made the “toxic hellstew” quote famous this year at Apple’s WWDC in early June. It turns out, the t-shirt was a bit of a hit during Google IO. In fact, Android fans have been asking where they can get this shirt as they wish to wear it proud to spite Apple’s blatantly deceptive claims. We here at Phandroid have teamed up with t-shirt designer Tyson Kemp to give away 5 free t-shirts to lucky winners.
The whole toxic hellstew phrase didn’t originate from Tim Cook though. ZDNet stated that “Android fragmentation [is] turning devices into a toxic hellstew of vulnerabilities”. True, the vast majority of mobile malware developed today is targeted at Android. However, Tim failed to point out though that just because Android has the most malware being actively developed for it’s platform doesn’t mean that Google Play is rampant with malware. Out of Google’s 1 billion active users, less than 1% of Android users actually become infected with malicious code. Additionally, if you’re in the mobile malware business, are you going to develop for the platform that holds roughly 80% of the global user base or are you going to go after a platform that has about 13% of the worlds mobile users? Exactly.

Sweet! I’m definitely digging this shirt idea.
Android 7.3 Toxic Hellstew
I cannot believe the Apple PR team lets their execs give false information about a platform that is beating them so badly.
Looks cool to me
Hilarious!
Cool! Thanks for the giveaway.
I’d totally rock it.
As for the ‘toxic hellstew’ comment… I mean, I think it’s just sad taht that’s the only thing that Tim Cook can say ‘negatively’ about Android, and does so from a position of poor knowledge. Exploiting ignorance of the true nature of the state of platform distribution is a true sign of weakness on their part.
Tim Cook: I hate androids but let’s steal all that android features and call it the iOS 7.
Perfect! Would wear this shirt proudly at work and everywhere.
I would love to have this one :)
Ignorance is what I think of it when they say it’s, “toxic hellstew”
Love it!
Awesome. I want one please!!!
Smells of desperation. They only people who take that a shot like that seriously are the zombies with the Fruit Products.
I only want this out of spite of Tim Cook. Let the games begin.
its most definitely a toxic hellstew……. FU Tim Cook
Sundar was way classy, and totally stayed away from the trolling. It is disappointing to see Apple troll like this. Still not as bad as their patent trolling, but disappointing.
I thought it was hilarious. Between Scroogled & Toxic Hellstew, Apple & Microsoft are very scared of Google.
That’s pretty much it. They’re scared, so they bash instead of selling their own services.
Lol. Shame BlackBerry never insulted Android.
I just switched from iOS to Android. This is awesome!
Great to see you guys at the BABBQ BAMG – Love my Phandroid glass!
I like it!
I like the shirt, I think it’s clever. But I wonder if it gives the wrong impression to someone who isn’t familiar with Android.
As with many geeky or snarky t-shirts, they’re hard to understand if you aren’t already in the know. This at least gives you a chance to strike up a conversation and let’em know the truth.
C’mon guys, give us international shipping! At least to Canada, I’m ready to pay the required shipping.
I’ll hit up Tyson in support of our brethren to the north.
nice shirt
Hilarious
Toxic Hellstews are not for the typical simpleminded Apple fanboys.
Hell Stew
Don’t care for the phrase but like it anyway
Apple is worried about Android’s dominance, so they resort to pointing out the malware issue. Just like they did with their desktops, saying how their OS doesn’t get viruses like Windows does. I notice they’ve stopped saying that about OSX. Has its popularity made it a target now? :-)
They’ve had a few security issues over the past couple years ;)
I always liked this counter-argument: having a Windows PC is like living in a big city’s bad neighborhood with superior security system, and having a Mac is like living in a remote rural area with all doors open. No one makes viruses for the system that doesn’t have substantial user base.
Android is inside Apples head.
Android is only toxic if you have a low tolerance for awesome sauce, the primary ingredient.
Excellent.
I love sporting Android swag.
Take it and own it! It’s our Toxic Hell Stew… yum!
I love toxic hellstew. Only down fall is it gives me really bad heart burn. Very tasty with toasted Italian bread though
The Toxic Hell Stew is the only way the Non Believers can try and describe us. We like it hot, smelly and messy
Non believers? Lol you sound like a cult member
Now if I can only get you to send me your money, so that I can build my church. :-)
Church of Duarte? :P
You do realize that matias duarte and material design have the same initials, right? :-)
I was going to go with Church of I/O, but I like duarte
I approve this message.
Really like the shirt design.
Hey sometimes it is and sometimes it isnt but its still fun!!
This is simply the KING of T-shirts!
I want some of that toxicity.
Awesome shirt. I want!
I want to be just like @derekross:disqus when I grow up, and therefore I need the shirt he wears! LOL
It’s a good move, IMO.
Honestly the first thing to pop into my mind is System of a Down….
Looks kinda cool, but should have put apple in the stew lol
How about a companion shirt with an Apple logo. “It’s a toxic hellstew of lawyers, and I despise it.”
Love it!
Great shirt! Nothing like the chance to tweak my iFan friends!
Sounds fun.
Trying my luck
I think Tim Cook is full of himself and it seems to be an emotion falling down the Apple chain of command. Vulnerabilities exist in every platform, the most popular platforms are the ones hackers exploit in order to hit the largest population possible. Its the same thought process with Windows. The Toxic Hellstew comment is inaccurate. However, the tshirt rubbing it in the face of those who said it is pretty cool.
It’s a toxic hellstew but I love it.
Its great!
Cool T-shirt
yay free shirt!
Anything that shticks it to Apple is a good thing! :)
Trying it out!
sweet!
It was maniacal.
Apple and Balmer have both had to eat their words when referring to competitors negatively, this is no different. it’s a losing game for them. since Android only improves over time
We need more Android merch like this!
Wonderful t-shirt
Delicious stew
