After taking a look at the tablet during this year’s Mobile World Congress 2014, the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablets are now officially up for pre-order. You’ll find them direct from Sony for $500 (16GB), and $600 (32GB) and before you pull back, remember these are premium Android tablets, offering not only top of the line specs, but Sony’s amazing attention to detail — including front facing stereo speakers. Just so you know what you’re getting in terms of specs, here’s what the Xperia Z2 Tablets offer:

- 16GB internal storage with microSD slot

- 4G LTE
- Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, MHL 3.0, and WiFi
- Android 4.4 KitKat
Sony’s managed to cram all these specs into a tablet that is barely .25-inches thin and weighs only 15.5 ounces. While Sony touts the Z2 Tablet as waterproof, water resistant is probably a better term. The tablet is rated IP55 against water jets, and IP58 for water submersion. Is this T-Mobile LTE compatible?
These are WiFi only. No sight of LTE models yet.
Wait for individual carriers to announce LTE variants of the Z2 Tablet in the coming weeks. This tablet is too gorgeous to pass up.

Ah, nice! Seriously, one sexy and super premium tablet. Only thing missing is the Xperia Z2 (my next phone, I think).
I only wish it had a pen of some sort. Note 10.1 spoiled me for any other tablet.
Of some sort? You can always get a capacitive stylus. They work with pretty much any tablet or phone.
I’ve had two devices with active stylii. I too wish all tablets came with the functionality included. It pretty much turns a tablet into a sheet of paper, with a capacitive stylus being a crayon compared to the sharp-engineering pencil active stylus.

Do they use that crappy TFT screen that they use for all of their phones? It is terrible. I sent my Xperia XL back in exchange for an LG G2 because I got jealous of my wife’s screen.

Just because LG’s tablet is lesser than Sony’s, doesn’t mean LG doesn’t kick Sony’s ass in the smartphone zone, which to be honest, matters a whole lot more.

Oh please, not another “ya have no knowledge dude”. Android is absolutely irrelevant in this discussion. Sony’s style and taste is impeccable, even Apple consulted with them, about phones and about laptops. LG’s taste is a little more, uhm, el cheapo.

Looks great, and the front-facing stereo speakers sound like a great improvement over my 2 year old tablet … but I don’t think that’s enough to get me to shell out $500
I believe the replacement cycle for tablets is much more akin to a desktop/laptop PC than it is a smartphone. I haven’t gotten any slowdown (unlike with my phone).
$500 and $600? Sorry, not for me. I can now get full-blown Windows 8 tablets for less that.
