Yelp V1.4 Now Offers Bookmark Syncing, Review Drafting

7

yelp-draftYelp has just updated their application in Android Market (V1.4) to allow for bookmarking businesses (synced) and drafting reviews of businesses directly from your phone. In a slightly odd twist, you can’t actually publish the written reviews from your phone and instead have to submit the already-written review from a regular computer. But after explaining it… it makes sense as a way to ensure the quality of reviews is up to par:

Well imagine what it would be like if reviews were done in SMS shorthand: “OK so, IANAE, but AFAIC this place has THE best Cfood. It was gr8! ADBB”

Um, yeah.

They plan on bringing a 140 character “Quick Tip” option to other platforms, like yours truly, currently available on the iPhone.

  1. I used to love Yelp until I found out they blackmail business to take off bad reviews.

  2. Hi gwlaw99 –

We take claims we remove reviews for money very seriously and wanted to make sure you saw this blog post from our CEO: http://officialblog.yelp.com/2010/03/additional-thoughts-on-last-weeks-lawsuit-or-how-a-conspiracy-theory-is-born-.html

Most notably: “Yelp does not remove or hide negative reviews in exchange for money and Yelp salespeople do not offer to do so. Additionally, Yelp treats review content equally for advertisers and non-advertisers alike: advertisers pay for advertising and enhanced listings, nothing more; and businesses are not penalized for declining to advertise.

  3. i have actually had reviews seemingly disappear – but they were positive. their staff recovered them and attributed it to some automated system they have. they were recovered shortly thereafter. oh well. i still like yelp a lot

  4. ^ whoops, proofreading fail, haha

  5. Good products, and services don’t require Sales People…

  6. That is completely untrue. Any business that makes good products will benefit from good Sales People.

  7. The Better Business Bureau makes you pay to file a complaint! Yelp should provide some transparency to their process if they want their service to be trusted.
