Let the flood gates open. With an announcement scheduled for next week and leaked documents showing the new Nexus 7 hitting retailers as early as Saturday, we knew it was only a matter of time before the device was finally pictured in the wild. The boys at Android Central were able to nab these images of the tab, even securing a quick hands-on video of the device from what appears to the be back room of one of these retailers.
While just about nothing is 100% confirmed, we can easily see the new Nexus 7 is sporting a handy 5MP on the back, and you’ll even notice the addition of an LED notification on the bottom center bezel. The new Nexus 7 also comes with dual-speakers along the back, where the Nexus logo now rests in landscape mode.
The sticker on the back of the device does list some of the specs, but after showing 4GB as the RAM (no way in hell), it’s definitely suspect. We still expect the device to come with the originally rumored Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2GB of RAM, and possibly a higher-res 1080p display (1920×1200).
This particular retailer puts the model number at ME571K_PR1_SKU2, which leads us to believe there is also be a “SKU1”? That, or SKU1 is reserved for the older models which will also be sold along side the new version. In any case, we’ll know everything there is to know about this tablet once it’s officially unveiled during Google’s July 24th event next week. Hands-on video below.
Ahh, there you go Chris. Nice job.
Kinda hyped about this little tab :)
4GB of RAM? Just in time for that Ubuntu Touch. LoL!! But then it will NEED to have some sort TV out. I would love for this to have it. If not, then I’ll just look at other tablets.
I have no way to play my games right now on my TV. LoL!!
Why is there a phone pad on it? And is there no pogo pins? Guess my dock will be useless with this. Damn.
It’s the secure lock screen PIN
Oh. I knew that.
Sir, with my respects you are an idiot.
A you are not an idiot, B there’s a 3G version of Nexus 7 already and C the New Nexus 7, will probably have 4G and possibly 4G+ (LTE Advanced.)
Hooah! Me likey. Thanks Mr Chris. nice to see a new new article and not a certain rehash with one new sentence every other day.
DAT Bezel
its the same as 1st Gen…Y U trippin homie? at least its not bigger.lol
That’s why I’m tripping because “it’s the same as 1st Gen” no improvement in that department. It’s one of the main reasons why I didn’t purchase the first gen.
aww man c’mon just about every 7inch tablet has the same amount of bezel…so i take it you will never buy a 7 inch tablet. and also just about every aspect has been updated(rumor based) so the bezel concern is just petty…im just being honest..out of all the things to point out, u chose something that cannot be changed..how else are they supposed to squeeze in a 4,000+ mah battery and now…a rear camera too…
Ahh you win! Plus no one can beat that price point.
I understand the need for “some” bezel on the sides of the tablet (so you can hold it correctly), but the top and bottom really could be smaller.
Something’s not right about this, big bezel, same processor as a 10 month old nexus for $270, not even a snapdragon 600, off course an 800 would be good, but at least a 600. Also 4 GB RAM, not realistic, more like 2.5 GB, we’ll see after all remember “A new Nexus 7 and a 5, is certain at Google I/O.” From the same rumour mill !!

How about a video showing what version of Android this is running. I assume 4.3 but it would be nice to see it.
They kept it the same b/c they probably didnt implement the finger rejection software. So the bezel aides the ability to hold the tablet w/o inadvertently pressing on the screen. (right?)
kinda looks a bit smaller on the sides, especially in the video.
its made by Asus!!!!! yes!!!! u can see the logo at bottom….
Wait is that a good thing? They screwed us on the internal storage speed with the last N7. I could probably write binary digits faster than it could.
They also screwed up the build quality with the loose screen issue i was hoping for a manufacturer that knows what quality control is.
I forgot about that. Mine is so bad that lightly toughing the left side makes it look like you’re splashing around in a coy pond.
Why is it I always get down voted for stating the flaws of asus’s products its not my fault every product I have bought from them has had quality issues out of the box its their fault for not checking the items after production.
Asus has some rabid fanbois, of course most of them probably never owned any Asus products. They hear tales of close to stock Android, quick updates and the things of lore and get all wet in the pants.
I think you are right about the fanboy thing. I gave them a final chance with the n7 I figured Google was trusting them with the nexus brand that it would be flawless but I was wrong well maybe next year they will change manufacturers
Have had 3, a 8GB and 2 32GB w/3G. No issue with build quality on any of them.
Some speculation that the *thicker* look is actually a case.
could be….
Well, we now know that lock screen widgets still suck…

I would say it’ll be the launch device for 4.3. With the leak from Samsung and a new Nexus device (potentially) being unveiled it couldn’t be anything else.
given the huge bezel on each side it had better have pretty good dual speakers.
Alright guys, I already got the nickname for this one. Brave yourselves. The Nexus 4+3. Its the Nexus 4 + 3 inches =D
its cool to see a video and labeled pics from one android news side i follow come to the other
On CNET I saw a closer picture and it does have a WUXGA resolution LED display which is full high definition… Also, the 4gb RAM may only be in that prototype but if it does come out, it will be to help the outdated processor and software fluidity…..
So long as it has a full HD display then this will be mine.
i want NOWWWWW
I don’t see the need for a rear camera, but perhaps some do.
Totally agree! I never needed to use a camera on my N7.
Went to Atlanta Aquarium last month and boy oh boy there are a lot of people with 7″+ tablets taking pictures. To me it looks ridiculous when observing from the side, i’m assuming they are getting average image quality plus it’s extremely inconvenient to carry it.
That’s just me, but if ASUS is putting camera in N7 then i’m hoping it is because that’s what people want.
is there any reason why every 7″ tablet is in portrait format and every 10″ is in landscape format?
I would imagine because due to the aspect ratio, the 10 inch kind of feels top heavy in portrait whereas the lighter 7 inchers don’t feel so bad???
wtf
Just wish my current n7 had a notification lite…thats about the only thing im jealous about…kimda hope the moto x software gets ported with their notification system
and the bezel is still looking like something out of the 00’s yay…come on!
