If you missed out on OUYA’s Kickstarter campaign or did not get a chance to purchase one direct through the company’s website, CEO Julie Uhrman has announced one more way you can get your hands on the Android-powered gaming console. Beginning in June, OUYA will be available from Best Buy, Target, and Gamestop.

Pricing for the console plus one controller remains at $99, though purchasing a second gamepad will be slightly pricier through this physical retail outlets. Normally priced at $30, the OUYA gamepad will sell for $49.99.

If going to a store is too much work, the console will also be available for purchase from the OUYA site and Amazon for delivery in June. Early backers will receive the first shipment of OUYA consoles in March, with more shipping in April. After that it sounds like June will be the earliest folks that missed the pre-order period will be able to get their hands on the trendy Android box with a rapidly growing community of fans.

  1. Who/What is Ouya???. . .

    1. Never heard of the “Google”?

    2. or any kind of tech news site?? welcome to the internet

  2. Only down side is the weak tegra 3

    1. I think it could have been a winner if they had a replaceable chip set and ram, then every year you could upgrade to the next tegra and add more ram, but spend less than a complete console similar to the Samsung smart tv’s.

  3. After Rob’s article that showed the games, I think I’m going to pass.

    1. Agree. If it’s tailored for emulator games, and have no adoption by big touch screen based games, I’ll pass. On the other hand, this could be running XBMC quite well, so I can throw out WDTV. And it better not come in ugly clear plastic case.

  4. I’m a strong supporter of Google related products but that thing is just not worth it in my opinion. The graphics are ancient. Horrible!

    1. Who the hell would pay $100 for this when if you pay $300 you could get a real console. This is pure fail

  5. Who are the idiots who funded this?!

    I will pass can’t wait for a PS4

    1. This really isn’t meant to be a PS4/Nextbox competitor, but as for the Wii U…

    2. my playstation is only used for netflix youtube and XBMC receiver. OUYA will do all of these and more for 100.00 and I dont have to update it every time i even fathom the thought of using it.

    3. I’ll go for the xbox 720. Either console will provide real innovations

  6. Waiting on gamestick…. and Ps4

  7. Apparently everyone commenting had a huge bowl of Bitch-E-O’s for breakfast this morning!!!

Ill wait to pass judgement until I can actually see the games released for it. Obviously passing judgement on something very, very new to the market (not even released) is childish, once I am able to go hands on…that will tell us everything. As this is a small start-up company I know launch-day games will be mediocre at best. Give it a few months and the price might drop a little or get bundled with some other goodies. Games will easily improve and quickly within the first 6-9 months!

    1. “Apparently everyone commenting had a huge bowl of Bitch-E-O’s for breakfast this morning!!!”

No, it’s because we’re not sheep.

      1. nope not sheep, just ignorant commenting on something you havnt used or tried, is anyone that buys something a sheep? how many units does a company need to sell before its customers become sheep? you have all your stuff handcrafted do you?

  8. $50 for one controller??? As if this thing wasn’t already ridiculously overrated now it’s ridiculously priced. Ouya console = Nintendo 64 with crappy games but no future. There is no room in the console market for toys. Especially with the next generation of systems and graphics just around the corner.

    1. . <——-that spot there is the point…….you missed it!

and the controller doesnt cost that much, how much is a ps3 or xbox controller?

  9. I look forward to the 2nd generation of the Ouya — slightly more expensive but significantly more capable.

    1. You know – maybe it won’t be more expensive. I could see them getting the next gen out for 99 bucks and halving the price on this one.

      1. agreed prices come down on these things as time goes on so the components that are expensive now will be the same equivalent cost in the not too distant future (although people will still whine about how much more powerful everything else is -_-)

  10. OK, the Tegra 3 my be weak, but there is no reason they can’t refresh yearly.

    1. An ‘open’ console that can’t be upgraded…

  11. waiting on ps4…fools. I too will get a ps4, but it will be under grudging protest. I’m sure they “won’t be able” to make it backwards compatible with ps3 games, instead opting to “re-release” games that all the suckers will happily shell out $50+ for, and with the strong rumors swirling that they are getting rid of the ability to play used games…”F” sony and their mothers.

  12. For any success, this needs to be marketed carefully. Unfortunately, the $50 price for a second controller doesn’t help in this area. It needs to be marketed for those who really can’t afford the Wii/XBox/PS3 crowd and those who are just Android junkies.

I can see a plethora of cost conscious parents suffering through whining kids who can’t play Mario Karts, like their friends do. Older kids, who already turn down their nose at the Wii, will likewise make a stink. Like it or not peer pressure and status will play into it.

  13. I love what Ouya is supposed to represent, but I have a bad feeling about the people in charge of Ouya.

    1. Reminds me of Notion Ink all over again.

      1. Not sure what that story is.

  14. The gamepad isn’t $50, it’s $30. BB, Target and GS are going to sell it for $50. Blame them!
