The Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G has been in the news for a while, but we now finally have an official launch date to look forward to. T-Mobile has announced it’d be launching September 19th. The QWERTY-enabled slider will cost $150 after a $50 mail-in rebate.
The mid-range device will launch with Ice Cream Sandwich, but beyond the operating system it’ll sport a whole host of other great specs. It has a 4 inch Super AMOLED display, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and more. I’d say this will be one of the more desirable devices to launch on Magenta this year. Anyone springing for it?

No NFC is a major bummer. With it this would be a no-brainer, now I have to think about it.
A few years from now, a phone without NFC would be ridiculous. Right now, it’s just not widely used enough to warrant it being in every phone. I’m pretty sure you’ll go the 2 years without even noticing or caring about the lack of NFC. It’s sure been that way so far with my One S.
We have to build for the future but right now I can’t do anything with NFC even if my phone had it.
As someone who fancies himself a developer, I’d like to at least have it to play around with.
And if the new iPhone actually does have NFC when it comes out later this week/next week, it’ll take a lot less than 2 years for NFC to take off.
Edit: Also, my contract doesn’t run out until November, and one of the things I liked about this phone is because it was mid-range, it was likely to be offered in one of those “Get a 4G phone for free” deals by the time November/December/January comes around if it’s released in September.
Actually it does have NFC. I’ve seen the NFC antenna on the FCC documents.
That’s a captivate Glide. Looks like Samsung is cleaning out there extra stock.
Have you looked at the Glide for more than a second? This phone might be similar – because it also has a qwerty keyboard – but that’s about it…!

Some people want to do more with their phones. I think of it as a pocket computer. A keyboard helps me do more but I also need the other capabilities.

There is the Note, at least. China is a big deal and it is easier to use a stylus to write Chinese than with a keyboard.
