YouTube Premium Lite has finally launched in the US

YouTube ads are annoying as heck, so if you’re using an ad blocker to get around it, we get it. However, this also means that it’s harder for your favorite YouTube creator to make a living. Thankfully, YouTube has announced that its Premium Lite subscription is finally available in the US.

YouTube Premium Lite first launched in Australia, Germany, and Thailand. However, after a period of limited testing, YouTube has decided to launch the subscription in the US. The plan is priced at $7.99 a month, almost half the price of the regular YouTube Premium plan, which is priced at $13.99.

Obviously, there are going to be some differences between Premium Lite and Premium. For starters, Premium Lite won’t remove all ads. Basically, any non-music videos will show up without ads. This way, you still get to support your favorite creators and will only have to put up with ads if you want to watch music videos. We think that’s a fair trade-off, especially if you don’t watch that many music videos or if not at all.

Also, Premium Lite does not come with the ability to download videos for offline watching or background play. Once again, it’s a decent trade-off if removing ads is your main priority. At $7.99 a month, it is more affordable than regular Premium. Hopefully, YouTube won’t increase those prices anytime soon.
