Amazon will Kill Off its Android App Store Soon

0

One of Android’s biggest advantages is allowing users to access third-party app stores, some of which come with exclusive apps not available on Google Play. With that said, Amazon recently announced that it will soon be discontinuing its Amazon Appstore for Android, a major change which is set to take effect on August 20.

While Amazon’s line of Android-powered Fire Tablets also come with the Amazon App Store, it seems that this will only apply to non-Amazon Android devices. The company states that it will still be available for its other devices such as Fire TVs and tablets.

Users will no longer be able to access the app on their Android devices once the shutdown takes effect, and this presumably includes app downloads as well. Amazon adds that it’s also discontinuing its Amazon Coins program on the same date, so users who still have Amazon Coins in their account will have to use them before the deadline.

Users who still have Coins remaining in their account afterwards will be given refunds at a later date.
