While Google’s Pixel smartphones aren’t the most powerful Android phones out there in terms of raw performance, they make up for it with amazing camera quality, as well as a host of other useful features that come in handy for day-to-day usage. In fact, one of the most features in the Pixel’s playbook is its ability to filter out unwanted spam messages and phone calls intelligently, distinguishing them from legitimate persons and businesses with unknown numbers.

Maybe you’re a first-time use who’s just getting around to using their Pixel phone, or maybe this is a feature that you’re just finding about now. Whatever the case, we’ve prepared this quick how-to guide on how you can avoid those annoying spam messages and calls on your device.

Prevent Spam Messages

  • Open the Messages App
  • Tap on your profile photo > Messages settings
  • Tap on Spam protection > Enable spam protection

Prevent Spam Calls

  • Open the Phone App
  • Tap on three dots on the upper left corner
  • Tap on Settings > Caller ID & Spam
  • Enable See caller and spam ID
  • Enable Filter spam calls

With those two features enabled, you should see a significant reduction of spam messages and calls getting through to your phone. Google has also equipped its Pixel phones with a Call Screening feature that lets the Google Assistant answer calls for you, saving you time from interacting with unwanted conversations.
