Vidu 2.0 Launches Improving Video Generation Speed to Under 10 Seconds at 55% Lower Cost

Updates from generative video companies seem to be arriving at a dizzying pace, as they rush toward real-time outputs. ShengShu Technology itself is no stranger to this competition. Vidu, the startup’s flagship generative video platform, is back with Version 2.0 – a major update that puts generation speed at the forefront, and at the best cost imaginable.

ShengShu’s logic is this. In the future, the current speed of generating video is acceptable, but there will come a time when speed enables for more applications. It’ll even change how we might consume content. For example, streaming movies might in the future be fully interactive and be even tailored to each individual viewer so that no one outcome could ever be the same, depending on the viewer’s decision. But to make this a reality, video generation speeds across the industry, the user experience, and cost of generating clips all need major improvements.

Vidu 2.0 comes as a major improvement for ShengShu Technology that manages to tackle all the above pain points and having 10 million users in the first 100 days. “Vidu 2.0 represents a significant leap forward in building a complete ecosystem of easy-to-use tools as we embark on the next phase for Vidu, which aims at an untapped opportunity in real-time co-creation,” said Jiayu Tang, CEO and co-founder of ShengShu Technology.

For starters, Vidu 2.0 introduces a new user experience that it calls ‘Templates’, which makes generating complex interactions or props as simple as a click. Templates lowers the barrier to entry for its users, enabling them to gain access to generation capabilities that otherwise normally might require a prompt engineer. Vidu 2.0 will introduce a limited number of templated actions and props to start.

Where ShengShu Technology prides itself in announcing Vidu 2.0 is with everything that comes out of its “full-stack interference accelerator,” which enables Vidu to speed up and lower the costs of generating a single clip. All in all, with Vidu 2.0, it now takes just 10 seconds, making it arguably one of the quickest in the industry. But that goes to say, Vidu 2.0 is faster without having to make any concessions to the quality of the video output. And the company claims that this was done on the basis of having generated 10 million reference-to-videos within the first 100 days.

Not only this, Vidu 2.0 is 55% cheaper to generate a single clip than the industry average. More specifically, generating a clip costs just US $0.084 per second for most competitors, but Vidu 2.0 halves this, coming in at just US $0.0375 per second. In fact, this is 50% more affordable than the company’s previously announced Vidu 1.5 update, which was unveiled just a couple of months ago.

While it’s not instant speeds we’re talking about here, video generators are getting faster and cheaper than ever. And for the industry as a whole, that’s a good thing. The faster the speed and more affordable it becomes, the more platforms like Vidu 2.0 could be applied to new types of applications beyond the straightforward use cases we’re quite familiar with already like creating video clips for social. Thinking bigger picture is the goal that ShengShu Technology has in mind for Vidu. More specifically, how eventually real-time generation could be applied to new ways of ‘co-creation’ or the ability to create more immersive content like video generation as it applies to livestreaming.
