Google Home app now supports all Nest Cams, including super old ones

The problem with a lot of smart home devices is that manufacturers love creating their own apps for it. If you mix and match smart home products, chances are you probably ended up with a bunch of different apps on your phone. Luckily for you, if you’re a Nest Cam owner, Google Home will now support all devices including legacy ones.

This is according to a recent announcement by Google where they revealed that the public preview of Google Home will support additional legacy Nest Cams. This includes the Nest Cam IQ Indoor, Nest Cam IQ Outdoor, and Nest Hub Max. This means that moving forwards, if you’re enrolled in the public preview, you’ll be able to access and control your Nest devices through the Google Home app.

Prior to this, Google had separate apps for smart home devices. There is Google Home, which is meant to act as a hub for all your compatible smart home devices. Then there was also the standalone Nest app. The company announced back in 2023 that they plan to transition and include support for all Nest devices to Google Home. This latest update seems to have achieved that.

Take note that this is a public preview of Google Home so you’ll have to enroll yourself in it if you want to take part. It’s a relatively easy and straightforward process, but hopefully Google won’t take too long to release the final version to the masses.
