If you’re someone that plays a lot of mobile games, then you might be interested to learn that ASUS has a new gaming smartphone in the works. This shouldn’t be too surprising given the success of the company’s past releases, but a report from MySmartPrice has revealed that the ROG Phone 9 was recently spotted on Geekbench’s website.
According to the benchmark listing, it looks like the upcoming ROG Phone 9 will be powered by the brand new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. This is the latest flagship chipset from Qualcomm that was revealed last month during the Snapdragon Summit. We’ve already seen a couple of phones use the chipset, so this shouldn’t really come as a huge surprise.
The benchmark listing has also revealed that the handset will use the Adreno 830 GPU and will come with a whopping total of 24GB of RAM! It also appears to run Android 15 right out of the box, so customers won’t have to wait for ASUS to push out the update. That being said, we have to wonder if the use of the Snapdragon 8 Elite could cause issues for gaming handsets like the ROG Phone 9.
This is because we had previously come across reports that the chipset does run a bit hot, so for devices meant for gaming, it could cause some problems. However, it is possible that a software fix could address these overheating concerns. Plus, we imagine ASUS will probably equip the handset with a variety of smartphone cooling tech, so we’ll have to wait and see how it plays out.
