Updating your smartphone to the latest software can be a bit troublesome. In the past, users would have to wait quite a while for an update to be complete, which is why Google pushed for its A/B seamless updates system. The good news is that come 2025, the Samsung Galaxy S25 series could finally adopt Android’s seamless updates.
At the moment, only the mid-range Samsung Galaxy A55, which launched earlier this year, supports seamless updates. The rest of the company’s phones do not, even its high-end flagship models. According to tipster @chunvn8888, that is set to change with the Galaxy S25 series.
To be fair, we probably have Google to thank for this. Earlier this year, Google pushed for all handset makers to adopt its A/B updates system. Looking into the AOSP code, it suggested that Google could actually go one step further and remove support for non-A/B updates. This means that Google would essentially force Samsung (and other OEMs) to finally adopt seamless updates.
This is good news for would-be Galaxy S25 owners who might have been hoping that seamless updates would make its way onto the phone. We’re not sure if older Samsung handsets could eventually get support, but we’ll have to wait and see.
