While RCS’ support for high-quality photos and videos has been around for some time now, it looks like Google is working on a way to let users send even better-looking photos with their RCS chats. New reports indicate that the latest version of Google Messages now comes with such an option.

More specifically, Google Messages will soon allow users to send original quality photos via a toggle, which will be available via RCS. The functionality was spotted with the Photo Picker toggle in the Messages app, which lets users pick either “HD” or “HD+” resolution photos, the latter of which sends photos with original quality. While it’s currently available via the beta version, it’s expected that the feature will roll out for more users soon.
Google’s mission for universal RCS adoption recently took a step forward with the launch of iOS 18, which now lets iPhone users send RCS messages – including photos and videos – to Android users. With that said though, the feature is still missing for some users in other regions and with other carriers, with the implementation leaving much to be desired.
