OpenAI launches a ChatGPT powered search engine

For the longest time ever, Google search has more or less been the de facto search engine for millions of internet users around the world. It was hard to imagine Google losing its dominance, but that could change with the launch of OpenAI’s brand new ChatGPT powered search engine.

We have heard reports that OpenAI was creating its own search engine that is powered by ChatGPT. The company later launched a limited test, but now they have announced that ChatGPT search is finally here.

Prior to this, users could kind of use ChatGPT to look things up on the internet. It wasn’t really designed to be used that way, but there are certain types of queries where you could get better answers compared to what Google gave you. Now with the launch of their new search feature, users can expect a similar, if not potentially better, experience than Google.

“ChatGPT can now search the web in a much better way than before. You can get fast, timely answers with links to relevant web sources, which you would have previously needed to go to a search engine for. This blends the benefits of a natural language interface with the value of up-to-date sports scores, news, stock quotes, and more.”

That being said, it remains to be seen if OpenAI’s new search feature has the potential to dethrone Google. Google themselves have been working on AI-powered search, where its search results page can sometimes show AI-powered summaries that will save users time from having to click individual websites. But we suppose this is possibly the biggest threat that Google has faced in a very long time. Users who are interested in the feature can try it out on ChatGPT’s website.
