WhatsApp recently announced that it was working on upcoming updates which will allow users to more efficiently add and manage their contacts. The update will initially roll out for users on WhatsApp Web and Windows, with other linked devices to follow soon.
Users will also be able to save contacts exclusively to their WhatsApp account, which serves as sort of a separate phone book for personal and business contacts. Additionally, users who save their contacts on WhatsApp will be able to restore them should they lose or switch devices.

WhatsApp adds that users will eventually be able to manage and save contacts by usernames, meaning that users will not need to share their actual phone number. Neither Meta nor WhatsApp have specified a release timeline for the updates however, so users looking forward to these features might have to wait for a bit.
