Apple now considering launching a pair of smart glasses

The Apple Vision Pro was an expensive experiment for Apple. It wasn’t exactly the commercial success Apple had intended, but given the price we can’t say we’re surprised. To salvage their investment, it seems that Apple is now considering leveraging the tech to create a pair of smart glasses.

This is according to Mark Gurman over at Bloomberg who claims that Apple’s Vision Products Group are developing at least four new products. One of those products is an Apple smart glasses. What’s interesting is that Apple isn’t taking the Vision Pro approach, but rather they could head down the same path as Meta.

Meta, as you might already know, has their own pair of smart glasses developed with Ray-Ban. The Apple smart glasses are said to be similar in concept, meaning that they aren’t augmented reality based. Instead, Apple wants to apply the Vision Pro’s intelligent features into the glasses to help scan and identify objects around the wearer.

We’re not sure what the selling point would be here since it would lack augmented reality. It is most likely cheaper than the Vision Pro, but like we said, we don’t know what the selling point is. Either way, the report claims that it will probably only arrive in 2027, so there’s still a long way to go.
