Latest Google experiment shows you full recipes in search results

It used to be that Google was primarily a search engine used to help direct people to the correct websites they are searching for. Now it seems that Google is trying to do everything they can to keep users on their website. According to a recent report, Google is testing out a new feature that can display full entire recipes in the search results.

In the past, if you were searching for a recipe for a dish with Google, you would be shown various websites that had that recipe. But in this latest experiment, Google has embedded a little “Quick view” button that sits on top of a website’s thumbnail in its search results. When users tap on the “Quick view” button, the entire recipe is shown, along with checkboxes so you can tick off things as you go.

There’s no denying that this is useful as it will make getting directly to the information a lot faster. However, we can imagine that website owners might not be too thrilled about it. In the past, there have been complaints by publishers who felt that Google was taking information from their websites and showing it in the cards in the results, effectively taking away traffic.

It’s a bit like a chicken and egg situation. If there are no websites with data to pull from, Google would be kind of useless. But if search engines like Google didn’t exist, these websites might have considerably lower traffic.
