Apple’s MagSafe initially felt like the company’s backup plan to their failed AirPower wireless charging mat, but over the years, it has proven to be quite useful. This resulted in the company lending a hand in the development of Qi2. For those looking forward to the OnePlus 13, it looks like the handset will support magnetic wireless charging.
This is according to OnePlus President and COO, Kinder Liu, who shared a conversation on Weibo that revealed that the company would introduce Qi2 wireless charging support to the OnePlus 13.
The conversation was between a fan and Liu who asked about whether OnePlus would bring back the bamboo cases for the OnePlus 13. Liu indicated that there are no plans for the bamboo cases to return, but suggested that there will be new cases that would feature a “magnetic suction function”.
This sounds like Qi2, if anything. For those unfamiliar, MagSafe is Apple’s proprietary magnetic wireless charging technology. The company later helped the Wireless Consortium with the development of Qi2, which is more or less similar in concept, to bring similar functionality to non-Apple devices. Liu does not explicitly mention Qi2 so we’ll have to wait and see if the OnePlus 13 will support the protocol, or if OnePlus is coming up with something of their own.
