Qualcomm recently announced that it’s teamed up with Epic Games in announcing the availability of Unreal Engine for the Snapdragon Cockpit Platform, which falls under Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Digital Chassis software for vehicle infotainment systems.
With Unreal Engine onboard, auto manufacturers will be able to use human machine interface (HMI) solutions for different vehicles types. While it’s usually used for games, Qualcomm hopes that this advancement will be able to provide end users with a more visually immersive and powerful in-vehicle visualization features, with customizable 2D and 3D visuals. Think of a more souped-up version of the touchscreen display on your current vehicle.
Of course it might be a while before we see some solid products come from this endeavour. With that said, the HMI solution is currently open to developers – Laxmi Rayapudi, Vice president of Product management at Qualcomm comments:
We are excited to deepen our collaboration with Epic Games to set new standards of in-vehicle experiences. By seamlessly integrating Unreal Engine with Snapdragon Cockpit Platforms, we’re empowering automakers and the ecosystem to innovate and elevate in-cabin experiences to new heights. We look forward to showcasing the power of co-innovation to unlock new possibilities for in-vehicle experiences.
