At this point in time it’s basic knowledge among Android enthusiasts that each smartphone manufacturer out there more or less has its own version of Android. With that in mind, Vivo recently announced the launch of its own Funtouch OS 15, which will be available for users in international markets.
The company says that it’s taken feedback from users regarding new features and improvements, including enhancements for performance, photography, and more.
Vivo says that it’s taken steps to improve Android’s fluidity by replacing its Fair Scheduling algorithm with the company’s own Priority Scheduling model, allowing Funtouch OS 15 to prioritize computing power for foreground processes. This essentially means in a 15% increase in average app startup speed, at least according to Vivo’s numbers.
Also present is an optimized zRAM memory compression algorithm, resulting in a 40% increase in compression speed and reduced GPU memory consumption, as well as Origin Animation which enhances animation smoothness and interaction responsiveness.
Funtouch OS 15 also goes heavy with user customization, and includes more than 3,800 redesigned design elements including wallpapers, system colors, fonts, icons, and more. New generative AI features are also onboard, including Image Lab for photo editing, and there’s an upgraded Ultra Game Mode which allows for quick access to social apps and setting adjustments, such as the screen refresh rate and touch sampling rate for example.
The new update also supports the Link to Windows feature that lets users sync content in real-time, manage their files, view recent photos across devices, and more. There’s also an overhauled S-Capture feature that supports annotations during screen recording, supports multiple audio tracks, and includes a control panel for microphone volume and system sound recordings.
As for availability, Funtouch OS 15 will be available starting from mid-October on devices including the Vivo X Fold3 Pro, X100 Series and iQOO 12.
