The vast majority of smartphones these days pack at least three cameras in its setup. There are some exceptions, like the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, that feature a quad camera setup, but those are pretty rare. Now it looks like Huawei is taking things further with the upcoming Mate 70 Pro which is expected to feature five cameras!
This is according to a recent report from Greek publication Tech Maniacs where they published exclusive images of the upcoming phone. As you can see in the photo below, it shows the Huawei Mate 70 Pro in the hands of someone who is presumed to be a Huawei executive. It also shows the back of the phone where it appears that the handset has a total of five cameras.
Typically speaking, most phone camera setups consist of a primary shooter, usually a wide-angle lens, that is accompanied by an ultrawide and a telephoto. If there are five cameras in this case, we’re not sure what the other two could be. It is possible that one could simply be some kind of depth/monochromatic sensor, and the other could be for macro.
Note that having more cameras doesn’t automatically mean better photos. Sure, it does give the phone more data points, but at the end of the day it is quality over quantity, plus the image processing algorithms that are used. Either way, we’ll have to wait and see when the Huawei Mate 70 Pro is officially announced.
