Sharing passwords on streaming services seems to be the norm. It is definitely a lot cheaper than subscribing individually, but it looks like Disney is done with that. The company has announced that they have started to crack down on password sharing on Disney+ and are introducing what they are calling “paid sharing”.
According to the company’s announcement, “Your Disney+ subscription is meant to be used within your Household, which is a collection of devices associated with your primary personal residence that are used by the individuals who reside there. But what about people outside of your Household? They will need to sign up and pay for their own subscription or be added as an Extra Member to your account for an additional monthly fee to continue enjoying Disney+.”
If you want to be part of someone’s paid sharing, or if you want to add them, you’ll have to pay an extra $6.99 per month per profile for Disney+ Basic, or $9.99 a month for Disney+ Premium. Also, note that only one additional slot is allowed per account, so it’s not as if you can add multiple people to it.
For context, the basic Disney+ with ads is priced at $10 per month, while Premium is $16 a month. This means that ultimately it will still be cheaper to go the paid sharing route if you really have to at the end of the day.
