If you (like some of us here on Phandroid) grew during the early days of gaming, then you might be familiar with the “Legacy of Kain” series, which encompassed several titles. With that said, it could be argued that the more popular entries in the franchise were the Soul Reaver games, which have remained pretty much dormant since the launch of Soul Reaver 2 back in the early 2000s.
This is no longer the case however, as Crystal Dynamics has recently announced a remaster for both Soul Reaver 1 and 2, which arrives this December for multiple platforms as well as PC. In addition to improved visuals, the remasters will also offer newer control schemes. As per Crystal Dynamics’ official announcement:
Remastered and published by Aspyr based on Crystal Dynamic’s beloved games, this new collection launches on Dec. 10, 2024, for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam for $29.99. It is available to pre-order today with a 10% discount until the official launch!
The Soul Reaver games follow the exploits of Raziel as he works to solve unfinished business with Kain (who the entire franchise is named after), and features a variety of gameplay including real-time combat, puzzle-solving, as well as a dark and brooding storyline. Fingers crossed that the other games in the franchise are given the remaster treatment as well.
