YouTube Premium sees a price hike in multiple countries

If you’re not a fan of YouTube ads or want to download videos for offline viewing, then you’ll need to subscribe to YouTube Premium. The price of the subscription is relatively affordable, but it seems that for some countries, price hikes are coming to YouTube Premium that could make it a lot more expensive.

According to a post on Reddit, the countries that are affected by the price hike include Belgium, Colombia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates.

Take note that the price hike for YouTube Premium isn’t consistent from region to region. By this we mean that YouTube doesn’t seem to have set a specific increase in price. For some regions, the increase in price isn’t particularly huge. But in some countries, especially Norway, we’re talking about a whopping 42% increase!

That’s honestly kind of insane and based on the Reddit comments, many are planning to cancel their subscription. Price increases to subscription and streaming services are the norm, but a jump of 42% is too much and we can’t blame some customers for opting out. But what do you think? Are you affected, and if you are, do you plan to cancel?
