Blocking someone on X is about to get pointless
Blocking someone in messenger or on social media basically means that the person who is blocked can no longer see your profile or interact with your posts. But it seems that X has a different definition of blocking, because they are planning to introduce some changes that render the feature kind of useless.
According to a post by Nima Owji and confirmed by X owner Elon Musk, blocking someone on the platform will be different from what you might expect. Blocking someone now only means that they can no longer engage with your posts. However, they will still be able to see any public posts you make.
Some users have decried the change, claiming that blocking someone can be important. However, as Owji points out, the current method of blocking doesn’t stop the blocked user from viewing public posts using a browser’s incognito mode. At least with this change, it keeps the experience more or less consistent across the board.
This is not the first time Musk has tried to mess about with the block feature. Either way, if you’re an X user then these changes are something you should keep an eye out for, especially if there are people who might be on your block list.
