WhatsApp Status updates is becoming more like Instagram

Due to Meta owning WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook, these three services do share some similar features. This includes WhatsApp Status, Instagram and Facebook Stories which are more or less the same thing, and it’s about to get more similar for WhatsApp in an upcoming update.

According to a report from WABetaInfo, it seems that WhatsApp is working on a new feature for its Status updates. This new feature will allow users to tag their contacts. If this sounds familiar, it is because it’s similar to Instagram Stories, where users can tag other Instagram users in their posts.

It’s not a particularly groundbreaking update, but it could be a useful update for those who use WhatsApp as their primary messenger. It could be used to update certain contacts without having to spam the chat. For those concerned about privacy, you don’t have to worry. It seems that only those who are mentioned in the Status will receive the notification and message.

Right now, the feature is in beta so if you aren’t in the beta program, you won’t be able to access it just yet. We’re not sure when the update is expected to roll out to users, but it could be worth keeping an eye out for if you’re a heavy WhatsApp user.
