Android 15 Now Comes with Even More Nifty Automotive Features

While Google has been mostly quiet about its Android Automotive OS (AAOS) for the most part, it should be mentioned that the company hasn’t exactly been sleeping on its vehicle-focused platform. As noted by Mishaal Rahman over at Android Authority, several new features have been in the works for AAOS.

This includes a feature that lets users stream audio from their car to Bluetooth headsets. According to Google, users can designate wireless headphones as audio output devices. One caveat however is that users won’t be able to stream audio from their phone to their car via Bluetooth due to software limitations.

Also present is a new dock that lets users pin their favorite apps to the bottom of the display for easy access, and there’s also added support for ambient view to AAOS 15, which the company says lets car makers design their own “differentiated experiences” for in-vehicle display screens in standby mode (think screensavers and clock widgets).

AAOS 15 also lets users access a feature called “Wifi hotspot persistence” which essentially allows data hotspots to be maintained between driving sessions. Other changes include enhanced radio support for HD and DAB standards, as well as other under-the-hood (no pun intended) updates intended solely for developers.
