Sony to Shut Down Concord Following Poor Market Performance

Sony’s latest online shooter “Concord” hasn’t been doing too well – following eight years of development and an estimated budget of more than $100 million, the game was launched for PS5 and PC on August 23 to mixed reviews, including a rather small player base across PlayStation and Steam platforms.

With that in mind, the company has now announced that it will be taking the game offline starting on September 6, just two weeks after its release. Part of Sony’s official statement regarding the game reads:

Concord fans — we’ve been listening closely to your feedback since the launch of Concord on PlayStation 5 and PC and want to thank everyone who has joined the journey aboard the Northstar. Your support and the passionate community that has grown around the game has meant the world to us.

However, while many qualities of the experience resonated with players, we also recognize that other aspects of the game and our initial launch didn’t land the way we’d intended… we have decided to take the game offline beginning September 6, 2024, and explore options, including those that will better reach our players… Concord sales will cease immediately and we will begin to offer a full refund for all gamers who have purchased the game for PS5 or PC.

Developed by Firewalk Studios, Concord’s gameplay incorporates several mechanics from modern multiplayer shooters, as well as “hero” battle royale games such as Fortnite and PUBG. The game was infamous for debuting to a measly 697 concurrent players on Steam.
