Qualcomm’s Newest “Budget” Chipset is Here, sans Announcement

Chip manufacturer Qualcomm apparently expanded its budget chipset lineup over the weekend with the new Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 SoC, a 4nm which succeeds earlier models in its 6-series range. Interestingly though, the 6 Gen 3 very quietly made its debut, with nary a press release or accompanying announcement to mark its arrival.

With that said, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 packs an octa-cure CPU made up of four 2.4 GHz Cortex-A78 cores and four 1.8 GHz Cortex-A55 cores, and also features an Adreno 710 GPU. The chip likewise supports LPDDR4X and LPDDR5 RAM configurations as well. Also present is built-in AI performance, albeit somewhat watered down compared to flagship Snapdragon chips.

Other features include support for device displays with FHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rates, as well as Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6E. The 6 Gen 3 also supports camera hardware including 48 MP single sensors, 32 MP and 16 MP dual sensors and up to 200 MP photo capture.

Qualcomm skipped a second-generation chip with its new 6 Gen series, going straight from the 6 Gen 1 to the 6 Gen 3. There’s currently no word on which brands will be the first to adopt the chip.
