Infinix Zero 40 Hands-on: Complete Package?

We finally had the chance to go hands-on with the new Infinix Zero 40, which packs some impressive specs despite a modest price tag. The Zero 40 comes with the kind of stuff that you’d usually see on more expensive flagship smartphones, but for a pretty low price of around $395, what exactly do you get?

Build and Design

It’s pretty clear that Infinix has designed the Zero 40 to evoke a premium in-hand feel. The unit we have on here features a large 6.78-inch curved AMOLED screen, with a resolution of 1080 x 2436 pixels, a maximum peak brightness of 1,300 nits and a 144Hz refresh rate. It’s a good-looking display and there’s very little to complain about here, save for the curved edges which might be subjective.

The rear panel houses the phone’s massive camera bump and features a matte texture, while the sides are covered in a glossy metallic finish although they are made out of plastic. There’s also Gorilla Glass 5 for added protection, in addition to IP54 dust and splash resistance.

Internals and Software

For software, the Infinix Zero 40 ships with Android 14, albeit layered with Infinix’s own XOS Android skin. This gives you access to some exclusive apps and software, including a pre-installed GoPro Quik app which lets you connect your phone to select GoPro camera models. There’s also a set of rich customization features with support for themes, wallpapers and fonts.

Powering the phone is a MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultimate chipset, which is overall a decent performer especially with the included 12GB of RAM, with options for 256 or 512GB of internal storage. This entire setup runs on a large 5,000 mAh battery, with support for 45W wired and 20W wireless charging speeds.

Cameras and Other Features

It’s pretty common to see large circular camera modules on most Android phones nowadays, and the Zero 40 features a layout that should be familiar to folks who have used other Infinix phones. This houses a triple camera setup which includes a 108 MP main camera, 50 MP ultrawide camera, and 2 MP depth camera. For selfies and video calls, there’s a 50 MP camera in front.

Video quality maxes out at 4K resolution at 60 fps, and thankfully there’s support for stabilization via gyro-EIS and OIS. As for the handset’s other features, you also get dual speakers, an under-display fingerprint sensor, and a trio of color variants including “Rock Black,” “Violet Garden,” and “Moving Titanium.”

The Infinix Zero 40 gets a lot of things right especially when it comes to hardware, and folks after a reasonably-priced midrange device might want to check out what this has to offer.
