You might think that this could be due to poor quality control at Samsung, but the company begs to differ. Samsung has issued a statement in which they are blaming third-party chargers.
According to Samsung’s statement, the reason for the paint peeling is due to “improperly grounded third-party chargers”. They claim that this is because chargers that are not properly grounded can leak current, which in turn affects the anodization process. They also advice customers to use official Samsung chargers to avoid this issue.
Other reasons Samsung has offered include using electrical muscle stimulation massagers while using the phone. The reasoning is the same as third-party chargers, where leaking current can affect the anodization of the phone. That being said, it doesn’t sound like Samsung is willing to accept exchanges or returns due to this issue, so if it happened to you, you could be stuck with a phone with chipped paint.
