Volkswagen recently announced that it’s teamed up with AirConsole to bring interactive entertainment to several of its electric vehicles. This list includes the like the ID.7, ID.5, ID.4, and ID.3, along with the Passat, Tiguan, Golf, and Golf Estate, to name a few.
With the AirConsole partnership, passengers will be able to access a number of games via their phones. Users will need to open the AirConsole app on their devices, scan a corresponding QR code on their car’s display, and then use their phones are controllers. We’re betting that this will be useful during traffic, or when your EV is charging its battery.
As for the game library, don’t expect any AAA console titles here – AirConsole’s list of games (unsurprisingly) includes casual games, which make them ideal choices for quick pick-up-and-play sessions. Volkswagen adds that the feature will be available in select regions in Europe, although they will arrive for more countries in the future.
This isn’t the first time that AirConsole has partnered with an auto manufacturer for gaming software – other brands such as BMW have also incorporated AirConsole’s technology into select models.
