The Samsung Galaxy Ring is pretty much unrepairable
The Samsung Galaxy Ring is an interesting device. Smart rings aren’t new, but it’s interesting to see big companies like Samsung enter the market with their own take on it. Unfortunately, it seems that the Galaxy Ring is a very unrepairable device, so you’ll want to be extra cautious with it.
This is according to a recent teardown of the wearable by the folks at iFixit. According to their findings, the device is pretty much unrepairable. This means that if it’s ever spoiled, you’ll have to buy a new one.
For instance, the majority of the components in the device are soldered together. This means that taking them apart would come with a high risk of damaging other components. There is also an epoxy resin coating on the inside that you’ll basically have to melt off. You’ll then have to chip away at it slowly with something like a dental pick. Even with the folks at iFixit being very careful, the end result is a hot and damaged mess.
Considering the price of the wearable, it could be an expensive affair to get it replaced. It is also kind of worrying that we’re starting to see more devices these days that aren’t as repairable as before.
To be fair, the Galaxy Ring is a tiny wearable. There is less space inside of it compared to larger devices like a smartphone, tablet, or computer. In any case, if you are thinking of getting it, then keep in mind that it could potentially be unrepairable should you run into any issues with it physically.
