If you’re looking for a new smartwatch based on Google’s Wear OS platform, then you might be interested to learn that Google has announced its latest wearable, the Pixel Watch 3. This is the latest smartwatch from Google and while it might look the same on the outside, it is actually bigger than its predecessor.
The Pixel Watch 2 was offered only in one size – 41mm. With the Pixel Watch 3, Google is offering users the option of a larger model which comes in at 45mm. This means that users now have two options to choose from, 41mm and 45mm, depending on your preference. However, despite the 41mm keeping its size, Google says that there is actually 10% more active screen area over the previous model.
The screen has also been made brighter, going up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness. It can also drop down to 1 nit, and its refresh rate can dynamically adjust between 1-60Hz, which should help the overall energy efficiency of the smartwatch.
Speaking of energy, the Pixel Watch 3 is rated to last about 24 hours with always-on display, and up to 36 hours with Battery Saver mode enabled. It is also smart enough to know when you’re sleeping and will turn off notifications and the always-on display to further conserve battery.
Overall, apart from the larger size, it still looks like the Pixel Watch 2. This is a bit disappointing as we’re not really huge fans of the design to begin with and it would have been nice to see Google attempt a new look.
Given that this is a smartwatch, we know that some of you probably plan to use it for fitness. If that’s the case, the Pixel Watch 3 actually comes with some new fitness related features that you might find useful. This includes a feature that helps you plan and track your running progress. You can add warmup and cooldown timers, set a target pace, heart rate, distance, and times.
There is also real-time guidance that will help you stay on track with both audio and haptic cues. You can also get detailed breakdowns of your run thanks to the built-in advanced motion sensors and machine learning. Google has also included a new Morning Brief feature.
This will provide users with a detailed summary of their health and fitness metrics. This includes details like how your previous night’s sleep was, readiness score, SpO2 levels, heart rate variability, and more.
Google hasn’t announced the pricing and availability of the Pixel Watch 3 yet, but it will be available in either a Matte Black, Polished Silver Aluminum, Matte Hazel Aluminum, or a Champagne Gold Aluminum finish. The smartwatch also comes with a 6 month free subscription to Fitbit Premium.
