The “Roku Sports Channel” Arrives on August 12

Roku recently announced that it will be rolling out a new (and more importantly, free) channel which will offer viewers access to sports content. Simply dubbed the “Roku Sports Channel”, the new channel goes live on August 12 with content both owned and licensed by the company. Roku adds that users won’t need a subscription or sign-up for the channel.

With that said, the Roku Sports Channel will offer 24/7 sports coverage including live Major League Baseball games, Formula E races, as well as The Rich Eisen Show and GMFB: Overtime to name a few. Partner programming includes classic boxing matches from Top Rank, combat sports from Swerve Sports, and poker content from PokerGO. Joe Franzetta, Head of Sports at Roku Media states:

A curated always-on channel that leads our viewer through the wide variety of premium sports content available for free on The Roku Channel, Roku Sports Channel is an exciting addition to our expanding sports offering. We continue to see audiences enjoy the familiar, lean-back experience FAST offers, especially with sports. Sports is one of our most popular channel genres on The Roku Channel, which makes us so excited to make it even easier for audiences to jump into Roku’s standout programming.
