One of the appeals of choosing an Airbnb rental instead of a hotel is price. They are generally cheaper and can accommodate more people. However, over the years, the increase in reports of hidden cameras is worrying. Luckily, if you own a Xiaomi smartphone, the upcoming HyperOS 2.0 update could be something to look forward to.
According to a report from XiaomiTime, the upcoming HyperOS 2.0 update from Xiaomi is expected to introduce the ability to detect hidden cameras. This is apparently achieved by using WLAN-based searches to look for signals that could hint at a hidden camera in the room.
If this is accurate, it could be a huge boon for those who are looking to better safeguard their privacy. Xiaomi’s hidden camera detection isn’t exactly new per se. Back in 2022, Oppo introduced a similar feature in its Color OS 12.1 update. However, the feature was limited to China and only available for a couple of handsets. Hopefully Xiaomi’s feature will be more widely available.
In the meantime, if you are concerned about hidden cameras in your Airbnb rentals or hotel rooms, there are other ways around it. This involves using radio frequency detectors or even using your smartphone’s flash light. We’re not sure how accurate Xiaomi’s hidden camera detector is, but on paper it’s a great idea.
