When companies make products, they make them with a purpose in mind. For example, phones are used primarily as communications devices. But for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6, it looks like Samsung and law enforcement have figured out an alternative means of using the phone, like body cams.
A couple of years ago, the Kimberling City Police and the Indian Point Police in Missouri conducted a pilot program to see if the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip phones had the potential to be used as body cams. It turns out it was particularly effective, so much so that it has since expanded to the San Benito and the Craighead County Sheriff’s departments.
Body cams worn by law enforcement officers aren’t new. It’s a great way to create accountability, both for the public and the officers involved. One of the main advantages of using a smartphone like the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is the improved optics over more traditional body cams.
The Galaxy Z Flip smartphones used by these officers have been customized. For example, the external volume button has been remapped to allow officers to quickly turn on camera recordings. It can also be automatically enabled if it detects a high speed pursuit.
