There is a lot of focus being placed on Qualcomm’s next-gen flagship chipsets. But if you’re someone who doesn’t buy high-end smartphones, it probably isn’t quite as interesting. For our readers who might prefer entry-level devices, you might want to keep an eye out for handsets powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 chipset.
This is a chipset that is designed for entry-level phones. It is a 5G capable chipset, which means that we can look forward more affordable 5G phones. According to Qualcomm, Xiaomi will be one of several OEMs that will be adopting this new chipset in the future.
So what can we expect from the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2? According to the company, the chipset features the use of the Snapdragon 5G Modem-RF System. It supports 1 Gbps download speeds and comes with Dual Frequency NAVIC and Wi-Fi 5 support. In terms of actual performance, the chipset comes with 2 performance clocked up to 2GHz, along with six efficiency cores with clockspeeds of up to 1.8GHz.
Granted, it is not as exciting as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, but hopefully these new features should result in better entry-level handsets. The first Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 chipset powered smartphones will hit the market by the end of the year.
