When it comes to identifying songs, there are plenty of apps that can get the job done. But it looks like TikTok wants to toss their hat into the ring. TikTok has started to roll out a new feature called Sound Search that will help with the song recognition process.
What makes this a more useful feature compared to some of the alternatives out there is that it can also work if you sing or hum into it. This means that if you have an earworm that you’re trying to get out, you can hum the melody or part of the song’s lyrics and the feature could potentially help you identify it.
TikTok’s new Sound Search feature isn’t exactly new per se. YouTube Music has something that works more or less the same. TikTok’s feature, however, does go one step further by also showing users videos that the song is used in. This could be helpful for finding videos like viral dances that use a particular song.
At the moment, the TikTok song recognition feature isn’t live yet for all users. The company did confirm that they have rolled it out to a small set of users in some regions. This means that they could be testing it out before rolling it out to a wider audience. If you don’t see it yet, don’t worry as we imagine that it should eventually be made available to you.
