Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 could focus more on GPU performance

Qualcomm has more or less confirmed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will launch later this year. We expect that Qualcomm will introduce performance upgrades, but if a recent post on X is accurate, it seems that the company will focus more on GPU performance rather than CPU performance for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.

According to the post, CPU efficiency on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 improved by single digit percentage. On the GPU front, however, the improvement is said to be “huge”. Apparently the GPU performance on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is said to match MediaTek’s Dimensity 9300. The difference is that it runs at half the power.

This means that we can expect similar levels of GPU performance while being more energy efficient. This is great news for gamers who want to be able to play games at max settings without draining their batteries too fast. This is actually not the first time we’ve heard reports that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be ideal for gamers.

The issue, though, is price. There are rumors claiming that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be a considerably more expensive affair. This means that as powerful it might be, its price could deter more handset manufacturers from using the chipset. There are even claims that Samsung could be potentially eyeing alternatives like MediaTek for the Galaxy S25 series. In any case, we expect more details will drop this October.
