Well this was certainly not on our 2024 gaming bingo card – the Nintendo recently unveiled a new accessory for the Nintendo Switch in the form of a new Joy-Con charging stand. Given how long the Switch has been on the market now, this does come as a surprise having been released so late in the console’s lifespan (around seven years now).
The charger will work with official Joy-Cons from Nintendo, and will be available later in the year. As per Nintendo’s official post:
Charge your #NintendoSwitch Joy-Con controllers and Nintendo Entertainment System controllers with the Joy-Con Charging Stand (Two-Way) accessory, available October 17th.
In other recent Nintendo news, the hybrid console set a record for the longest-running console from Nintendo, overtaking the previous record set by the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) without being replaced.
The Switch has lasted 2,688 days – that’s more than seven years – without being replaced by a next-gen successor. As mentioned earlier, the NES held the record with its 2,686 day count before its successor (the Super Nintendo Entertainment System) came around to replace it.
